When I downloaded this series to my kindle before leaving on a long European adventure, I was reminded of the old saying “if everyone else was jumping off a bridge, would you?” I like sex. And god help me, I liked Twilight. Mostly I loved Wuthering Heights, the book that inspired Twilight and then, this. But, Christian Grey is too young and one dimensional to be that twisted. Even to be a billionaire—it would help if she actually interviewed one. Anastasia is a simpleton, through and through. One thing the book gets right—these two really belong together. I tried to turn off my intellectual understanding and proceeded to take it at just porn-level—but even the love scenes failed to titillate. I only weep for all the trees that were destroyed due to this book.

Enter Ana, a bone-head giving naive a whole new meaning. After incredible sex, passion beyond passion, intimacy like nobody's business, she can't talk to him without being self conscious? Each encounter is new? Seriously? interestingly enough it's evident intimacy doesn't live here, it's not personal it's business though Ana has him doing things he said he wouldn't like make love, but she's so self conscious with him, embarrassed, uncertain, after the first night that bond that should've been there ain't. There are secrets most likely, but I'd rather Gabriel Oak and Bathsheba's Madding Crowd. I began skimming through sex parts, his erection, her orgasm, kinky things we say in the heat of and made a decision. I'm putting Shades of Grey on the shelf. Maybe some other time or not and we don't need to have Paris. I read this 2nd book in the series and watched the movie as well. Truth be told, I thought the movie was done well. The pacing was good, but the thing that struck me the most was that Anastasia had grown stronger dealing with Christian, which was a good thing. She starts out as this young virgin I had a tough time buying but her growth as a human being was great in the second book. I love erotica and while this isn't quite what I generally read, I have to admit I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the book and the movie.

They have a lot of explicit content. This does not bother me, but some may not be comfortable reading some of the scenes.Overall, I think I enjoyed the books. I read them quickly, and read all three, and found them hard to put down. Not sure my inability to put the books down were for the reasons the author would appreciate. Let me explain.First the graphic sex scenes captured my attention in a "passing a car accident" sort of way. There are toys, several apparatus, and an entire room in this series devoted to BDSM. BDSM is not my preferred genre of books or sex, so this was a new world for me, and it had a hold of my attention, much the same way that passing a terrible car accident might. I wanted to see what had happened to cause the accident, completely out of morbid curiosity, all the while I hoped that no one died and that I didn't see blood as I passed.There was a story hidden in all of the gratuitous sex though. The story did not seem like the focal point of of the story, so it seemed mildly lacking, as it appeared the sex scenes had more effort put into them than the rest of the story. The plot/story, if read on its own and skipping the sex scenes, may not have been able to stand on its own, or may be completely empty and boring. I would not suggest that the reader skip the scenes, no matter how gratuitous, as they are an integral part of the story.I gave this series three out of five. I enjoyed it. I learned things that I was not looking to learn. There is whole other lifestyle out there that I have zero experiences in, and these books showed that love can exist even in these lifestyles, despite what so many believe. I could not give this book a four or a five star rating though because the story line was so empty when the sex scenes were removed. The story should have still been good with or without the BDSM, but this one, in my opinion, could not have stood on its own.

About the Author

Kerry Greenwood was born in the Melbourne suburb of Footscray and after wandering far and wide, she returned to live there. She has degrees in English and Law from Melbourne University and was admitted to the legal profession on the 1st April 1982, a day which she finds both soothing and significant. Kerry has written three series, a number of plays, including The Troubadours with Stephen D'Arcy, is an award-winning children's writer and has edited and contributed to several anthologies. The Phryne Fisher series (pronounced Fry-knee, to rhyme with briny) began in 1989 with Cocaine Blues which was a great success. Kerry has written twenty books in this series with no sign yet of Miss Fisher hanging up her pearl-handled pistol. Kerry says that as long as people want to read them, she can keep writing them. In 2003 Kerry won the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Australian Association.

I'm a one-dish kind of cook, so this book is great for me. Delicious, simple recipes. The book won't make it to my bookshelves, but stay on the kitchen counter for frequent use.

As a busy homeschool mom, easy one-dish dinners are a blessing! I like to make nice, more complex dinners as well, but sometimes you just have one of those days that you need a quick (at least a quick prep!) dish with less clean up afterwards. That’s where this book comes in. 101 dishes for either the dutch oven, skillet or casserole.There is a great variety with the book divided into four main sections: Soups and Stews, Skillet Suppers, Oven-Baked Suppers and Salad Suppers. You also have a variety of cuisines from Italian Wedding Soup to Louisiana Red Beans & Rice, Vietnamese Shrimp & Noodle (or Vegetable) Salad, Thai Beef Salad, Moussaka, Arroz con Pollo, Irish Stew and so much more!I was tickled to see King Ranch Chicken as I have good memories or this dish at church potlucks growing up! New England Seafood Chowder…well, what’s not to love?! I like that you can just follow the recipe as is, or you can get creative and add even more seafood if you’d like! I really want to try the Mediterranean Seafood Stew next!This is not high-brow, fancy cooking, but dishes that are easy to put together and tend to be family favorites. I also own numerous cast Iron pieces and multiple casserole dishes of various sizes. Why you ask? Because I have very little time many days to spend the time I enjoy preparing a meal or experimenting. I can prepare multiple dishes in my slow cookers and crock pots and pull it all together in a few minutes when I arrive home.If preparing a stew or soup I can throw in all in the slow cooker either the night before or in the morning befoore life intrudes and I am off at a run. Or if I plan and early start I can put together a breakfast casserole the night before and heat it up in the morning or put the slow cooker on and wake up to a hot delicious breakfast. Kids have recitals or a game that will run into the dinner hour, no problem salad in the fridge, Spaghetti is in the cooker and bread is buttered awaiting browning in the oven.Our lives are hectic at time and we need to cut down our time slaving in the kitchen, Slow Cookers, Crock Pots casseroles and one dish meals are there to help us do that. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy a meal of beef wellington of scratch lasagna as much as the next person, but time constraints keep me from indulging in one of my favorite hobbies, cooking.The recipes found her are well written and are easy to follow. I'm always looking for a wider and more flavorful array of dinners than my old standbys can offer. Many cookbooks these days try to reach across the Earth with international dishes, but this one truly does, and offers a who’s-who of the worlds best family dishes from across the globe. soups, stews, skillet suppers, casseroles and baked dishes, and salad suppers, too. They’re all quick, easy, healthful and real dishes from around the world — plus very little clean-up afterwards. The international flavors are most welcome in our home, with the Mexican, Indian, Southeast Asian, and the many vegetarian dishes all being big hits. The recipes are all quite simple and filled with flavor, whether they’re heavy or light dishes. For soups, we’re enjoying both the seafood gumbo and Thai tom yum soups. With shrimp being so cheap nowadays, the seafood paella (heavy on the shrimp, light on the clams) is something my husband and I really enjoy.

Although I love cooking, the clean up is by far my least favorite part so one-dish dinners are slowly becoming my go-to. This has a great selection of soup, skillet dinners, and oven-baked recipes that seem to be very simple and easy to follow. There are tips on cutting tools, cookware, and how to properly stock your pantry at the beginning as well as a short paragraph on how to care for and season cast iron skillets (which I actually found very helpful). Also, each recipe is preluded by interesting facts, history, or tips which was a nice addition. Out of the 101 recipes, I ended up bookmarking only about 20-30. Unfortunately, not all the recipes are followed by a picture which would have been helpful especially for the recipes I had never heard of before. I'm almost positive I would have ended up with a lot more bookmarked if more pictures had been included. One recipe I was thrilled to see was the one for Caldo Verde. I will definitely be making it to see if it compares to my moms!
