Another outstanding book by Darrin Donnelly. This book is fiction but actually could easily be non-fiction. Interesting, inspiring and will provide sound wisdom about what life really should be about. You will not be disappointed with reading this book. Keep up the great work Darrin!

I really enjoyed it, but it wasn’t my favorite of his. It’s worth five stars but I would recommend a couple of his others before this one. Very interesting twist on things and just thinking about how life could be and what actually defines success. You’ll enjoy not only the story but everything else he talks about. I really enjoy this author.

This is the 4th book of the Sports for the Soul Series. I wasn't sure Darrin Donnelley could top Relentess Optimism but he certainly did with LIFE TO THE FULLEST. All of his books have helped me so much at a time I really needed the inspiration. His story telling through sports keeps the pages turning and does not let you put the book down. If you have started the series with THINK LIKE A WARRIOR you MUST read all of the series books. These books really can change your life.

Great read, fantastic message, outstanding series of books. Can't wait for the next one to be released!!!!!! You don't have to be a sports fan to appreciate these books.

I recently lost my job and after reading the first three sports for the soul books I knew this would help. Thank you Darrin for providing me with hope and faith as I continue to find my purpose, and begin the next journey of my life.

I found Brown's honesty about the emphasis on continence in both Roman society and the abiblity to be as such a sign of a true prophet in Christianity to be edifying. I just took Christopher West's Theology of the Body workshop and found many of the truths in this book to be found in John Paul II's writings on the Theology of the Body. The natural weakening of the ability of the sexual act was seen as an ability to turn toward the union with the divine instead of as something that had to be fought off with Viagra! I found it to be a book that will encourage people to the resourcement that the Second Vatican Council has called us to. I was fascinated to see in the Roman Empire how giving birth was a duty just to keep society functioning as the life span was only 25 years old. Love had to be stronger than death or the Roman Empire would have collapsed!Rev. Arnold J. Miller Jr.

First, I suggest a counter to the review which said the book was dense reading. I don't think so (caveat - I have a degree in Theology, so I read this stuff all the time). Brown's presentation is more lucid than many writers of similar works in technical journals, and he is a world class expert on "Late Antiquity", a subject he virtually invented. He is also the author of the best biography of St. Augustine (short of reading the "Confessions").I also suspect the reviewer's claim that the Christians took on the ascetic ethic of the Stoics. The only reference to the Stoics of any substance is their influence on Clement of Alexandria, who was not a major advocate of asceticism and against concupiscence. Asceticism grew on the fringes of the empire, in the Syrian and Egyptian deserts. The emphasis on abstinence from all sex except for procreation for the general faithful was stressed most strongly by St. Augustine in several books, and argued strongly against heretics who discounted "original sin".I have two main comments which scholars may find useful. The first is that it deals primarily with Latin Christendom, and with very little attention given to the Greeks (Origin, the Cappadocians, and John Chrysostom) of Egypt and Anatolia, for example. The second is that it tends to see things from a very broad perspective, giving lots of background. This has the advantage of pulling in a lot of names and places who are important to someone studying the subject. I heard, for the first time, of the major Pelagian heretic, Julian of Eclanum.It is this broadness which makes the book appealing to the non-scholar. It is important to remember that the subject is both "the body" and "society". That's a big canvas to fill. But, if all you want is ancient views on "the body", you may need to wade through a lot of ancient history. But, for school work, the footnotes and the bibliography are worth the price of admission.

Peter Brown is awesome. Great writing, clear arguments, and excellent elucidation of the issues. This book was eye-opening for me, and I highly recommend it.

For a scholarly work this is a surprisingly good read about some strange twists in the history of western ideas.

A classic! Brown is still relevant and provoking. Broad overview of the development of sexualiy and gender in early Christianity.

The book came on time in great condition. I bought it for my religious studies class called "Varieties of Christianity". This book is dry and can be a bit long, but I actually learn a lot about early Christianity from this book! If you have the motivation and interest in learning about early Christianity, this is a great book to go!

This is a very important book. It shows, by quoting early Christian writers, how the Church, through adopting the moral stance of the Stoics, a stance that looked very high, but was a rejection of our materiality, came to a negative view of our sexuality, a view it has not yet quite expurgated.

The book was pretty dry and the authors writing style made it difficult to understand his sentences. I was constantly looking up words. However, the book was really educational, and reading it felt like back thru time.The author really gives us a good understanding of the early ascetic views of distorted sexuality.

Living in the NW with roads and highways criss-crossing most stretches of the Cascades it's almost hard to imagine that not so long ago all of that was remote and climbing back up in there meant long multi-week treks from road to road, bagging peaks along the way.Beckey and company enjoyed these peaks in the best possible way, back in the day day when one climbed in boots or tennis shoes, protected rarely and then with pitons or more likely a slung horn or chockstone, and where the route was what you made it not what you find on-line or in a book. Most of these peaks aren't terribly technical, and modern ascents always have something of the anti-climatic feel to them. There are epic moments here and there when things go south, but by and large it's dull sort of adventure. Better to have done it back then with less hardware, more pluck, and the frequent use of one's younger brother for shoulder stands.This book along with Exum's collection of climbing stories are probably the two most important records of the pre-yosemite generation of climbers. It's invaluable record American alpine climbing in it's infancy, and it's funny.

Required reading if you love the North Cascades. Fascinating to see these familiar peaks, walls and summits through the wide eyes of the first ascensionist in an age passed.

Great stories of an Fred Beckey a Pacific Northwest legendary adventurer taking the road less traveled, and having the ride of his life in numerous first ascents.

A must read for and climber or alpinist in the northwest, heck for anbody who plays outside at all. You will never look at the north cascades without thinking of Becky and crew again.

Book talks about several of his classic climbs in the Cascade mountains. I great book to read for anybody interested in mountains.

Some nice writing and photos in some ways these books are not dated, but I would look for a newer book if I was serious about climbing there

Fred Beckey is a classic just like the stories in the book of his early and first ascents. This is the book I read almost 30 years ago that helped fuel my love for alpinism and climbing mountains. I borrowed this book from Jim Nelson, also a North Cascades legend, and remember reading about all the peaks Fred did so long ago. His sense of adventure is amazing! The old climbers from the early days were total studs and had a sense of adventure and exploration we can only imagine today. It is amazing to hear about the climbs they did in the 1930's, 40's, and 50's that are hard today, but had even longer approaches then and done with such inferior gear!

The main problem with this book is that it is not “freestyle” which refers specifically to weight watchers low-fat healthy diet. The name of this is misleading. You will not find any nutritional information or WW points. The best thing about it is that it does have 750 recipes and many of them sound good. If you are looking for WW freestyle recipes look elsewhere.

Before now I don't usually make use of my Dutch oven because I find it difficult to follow the recipe steps I got from Pinterest. I think the recipe steps in this Oven cookbook are easier to understand and follow and the meals tasted great!

The Salad recipes in this cookbook are the best for me because they take not more than 20 minutes to prepare them. I now have a lot of tasty salad recipes to choose from. My children are really enjoying them.

This has become my favorite calendar. I missed it one year because they were sold out by the time they ordered. Never again - here it is, July, and I was already looking for the 2019 edition.The quotes are extremely well curated. Based on past experience, there are some attribution errors, but (so far) nothing truly egregious.Virtually all the quotes are serious - no light humor here. And also, happily, very few bits of ersatz wisdom from television or media celebrities.My only criticism, every year, is the binding. It feels very fragile and I handle the calendar very gently. But the binding hasn't split yet, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.It's far from the New Year, so severely limited my browsing to just a few pagesd.All is well. Same great curation. Same great typography.Same great daily doses of encouragement and wisdom.Jerry

Calendar came damaged. The pages are all falling off. The base is cracked. Terrible.

The product, a page a day calendar arrived and despite being pressured wrapped is defective. The glue was insufficient and as such the pages are already falling apart - so instead of pulling away a page a day you’re left with a few stacks of pages. It doesn’t stick to the plastic stand either, obviously. Insufficient glue.
