Excellent little story for your little ones to read before visiting an aquarium or sea park. Little Critter and his classmates take a field trip to the aquarium to learn about sea life. The visuals are all very well done just like all the other Mercer Mayer stories. The kids see all the fish and normal attractions you would find at most aquariums. It is a nice little story and our daughter gets excited when we pick it out to read. Although I have never heard of a restaurant that sells a "swordfish burger" sounds intriguing. Our favorite part of the story is when Little Critter is daydreaming about snorkeling in the sea and finding a real octopus out in the wild.The bright colorful illustrations make it easy for our daughter to follow the story and stay focused.We bought this story book along with the Berenstain Bears at the Aquarium. To show our 5 year old daughter what she would see at Sea World on our vacation. Both books are around the same price and tell the same story. I always liked the animation in the Mercer Mayer stories a little more than the Berenstain Bears. You might want to check both books out at your local library before purchasing the one you like best.If you are trying to teach your little guys about fish this is a nice book to star with. I would rate it 4 stars.

My son is 6 and a beginner reader. This is a great book for other kids at the same level. It is easy to read but has some more complicated words that are not impossible to pronounce. The pictures are fantastic in this book...very detailed and super cute. The book takes only around 5 minutes for a young child to read. A+

Fortunately, we live in northern California and have had the ability to take our kids to the Monterey Aquarium and the ocean and I truly feel my little guy can relate to a lot of the things in this book from things he's seen. He LOVES sharks so the opening page is a real winner. Plus, each character seems to have their own individual experience so different children can relate (one child falls in the petting tank, another child is scared). Also, they introduce a manatee in this book and you don't often see manatees referenced so that was a very pleasant surprise. We have been reading this book on and off again for a year and my little boys still loves to have me read it to him.

The language is simple, but the illustrations are charming and interesting and have a lot of detail for kids to explore. They are timeless and fun and I enjoy reading them with my grandson.

My daughters love these books! Fun stories and cute pictures

Great small step forward for my son. I suggest starting out with the Biscuit collection, if your child is just starting to read books.

My marine-loving 4-yr. old granddaughter loved the story, but it was definitely NOT an early reader for her. Nonetheless, I loved the multisyllabic words and humorous illustrations. Both are important for kids to find in books! No moral here, no lesson - just fun.

Always a good read with the grandkids!

Jennifer Shannon has written a friendly but informative book in a voice nicely suited to teens. I chose this for my 14 year old to help her develop better study habits and I've included her review as well.The book breaks down procrasinators into four key categories: The perfectionist, the warrior, the pleaser, and the rebel. Each of these personalities put off tasks for reasons specific to their type: the perfectionist is afraid that what they finish will not be judged well, the warrior doesn't do things unless motivated, the pleaser puts off anything that might make an unpleasant situation with people, and the rebel refuses to do things that are mundane or deemed as 'the same as everyone else.'Once the types are discussed, including examples of people and the issues they face, author Shannon goes into detail on how to get over the roadblocks of each personality type. The book uses the very popular CBT (cognitive behavior therapy) to encourage teens to be aware of the consequences of procrastination and how avoiding/ignoring the issue snowballs it into something truly problematic.There are some light illustrations throughout but they are mostly chapter headings and not really relevant to adding to the discussion so much as decorating the pages so they are less text-heavy.My 14 year old felt that she fit into several of the categories in varying degrees and so was a bit frustrated at the solutions. But she also said it was well written, easy to follow, had some really good points in there, but that it felt extremely repetitive.In all, both of us do recommend this book to help teens become more aware of their actions and the consequences of letting things snowball. Finished this book in one seat. It is really easy to understand and follow along, no jargon, just useful advice for teenagers and adults alike. The book deals with procrastination through the different points of view of four fictional characters: Jordan, Emily, Athena and Tyler. Each one representing a "procrastinator type": perfectionist (limited by fear of failure), warrior (only acts when stimulated or pushed to do something), pleaser (postpone their own needs to please others) and rebel (values being in control and wont follow orders unless it makes sense to them). I think it is really easy to discover your type/s ( you can be more than one, and I found out that I can be any of them depending on the situation). In case needed, there are links provided, like with many other New Harbinger books, so you can have access to quizzes and many other extras. The last chapters are dedicated to give solutions, tips and suggestions specifically for each type of procrastinator.If you are a parent, it can help you to find out what kind of procrastinator your child is. You can then see things from his/her perspective and approach him/her in a way that instead of resistance, naturally promotes collaboration.Keep in mind that this is a light, introductory approach to procrastination, perfect as a first read, but if you want to dig deeper make sure to check the resources provided in the book or check other titles. I believe this is enough information for teenagers who want to find real solutions and stop the procrastinating cycle. Getting to know the different reasons why people procrastinate while following the stories and reactions of each character is what makes this book special and well suited for teens. It is easy to feel identified with the characters and to pin point the core values that motivate our procrastination. THE ABBEY PSALTER is a large attractive burgundy cloth hard cover book with stylized gilded lettering on the front cover. It reads: The Abbey Psalter. I like it for two reasons. The first is the beautiful, large easy-to-read print and also its fresh translation. Both lend themselves to "praying the psalms." I find it to be "a text ... artfully copied out by hand ... as to suggest something of a personal character that suits the meditative recital of the psalms, and something too of the peace and silence that monks seek to bring to their common prayer" (Foreward). Each of the 150 psalms begins with a larger red letter; there are no verse numbers to interrupt worship, merely diamond-style bullets. In addition to the psalms, the book includes: The Song of Zechariah, The Song of Mary, The Song of Simeon, and Revelation 15, which ends with, "All nations will come and worship you/ for your judgments have been revealed." The second reason I enjoy this book is because of the short but informative Foreward by John Eudes Bamberger, Abbot of the Genesee. He begins: "The Psalter is the prayerbook of the people of God." Thereafter, he quickly and clearly traces the history of the use of the psalms in the Catholic tradition. Furthermore, the book contains, "A Note on Cistercian Art" to accompany nine black & white full page illustrations scattered throughout the text: "Their motifs fall into two categories: stylized flowers and vegetation, and geometric patterns and interlace." This is a beautful and touching book. (I think I just might buy another.)

This was a very well detailed guide to the history of animation. I just wish it were a little more up to date, however, as it only stretches out to the late 1980s; just before Disney and Warner Bros. both made huge comebacks in quality entertainment (Disney, of course, with Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King and Toy Story; and Warner Bros. with Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs and Batman the Animated Series). That aside, its still a well-written book.

This truly is a remarkable, detailed history of American cartoons. Maltin goes back to the beginning and will tell you tons of details about the industry, and probably about cartoons you have never heard of.I really appreciated the focus on studios. Now I understand better why I didn't like Terrytoons as a kid!There is one shot where Maltin takes a shot at Robert McKimson. Having watched some of the Loony Tunes Golden Collection, I now understand the politics behind the scenes at Warner Brothers, so it's interesting that Maltin has his side in that issue.If you like American Cartoons from the early-mid 20th Century, pick this up.

Anyone getting into Animation this is you bible book. Great resource and teaching aid. You see it value.

A really informative book for learning animation, but it’s a little bit hard to read because there are so many words in one page

I'm an animation student and this book has so much insight about the history of animation (American). It's a good read even if you don't study animation has a lot of interesting stories. It also has the largest list I have ever seen of all the cartoons released by the specific studios.

One might not think animated cartoons would merit a scholarly study, but this is an excellent book for casual cartoon fans and dedicated film buffs alike. Leonard Maltin and Jerry Beck trace motion-picture animation from its comic-strip-character beginnings to the latest technological developments. Some cartoon studios were celebrated (like Disney and Warner Brothers), others unsung (like Van Beuren and Columbia), but all make fascinating reading, enhanced by firsthand accounts by animators, directors, and producers. Excellent as a continuous read or for reference.

Contains a wealth of knowledge within. Really incredible stuff.

Mostly recipes. Not much on how the diet works or how to get started.

Not bad

I received an ARC copy from the author and am reviewing this independently.I've been trying Ketogenic recipes off and on the for the last six months or so, and was immediately impressed with the recipes here because they were easy to follow. The instructions for the four recipes I tried were concise, the ingredient's list was accurate, the times were correct, and the dishes turned out mouth watering in each case.Before I tell you about the recipes, let me say a couple of things about the book itself. If you are a beginning to Ketogenic diets, this book will answer a lot of your questions. It will also help you plan meals, help you decide what to jetison out of your pantry, make your shopping list, and clear your cupboards out. Remember that in Keto diets, a very small percentage of your food will be carbs and sugars, so you will be concentrating on fats and proteins, which is pretty much opposite of what you may be doing now. The book has chapters with foods to eat and foods to avoid, grocery list help, and solid explanations of what foods are ok and which aren't.I tried the following four recipes - and I chose these four based on the ingredients listing with each. I had most of the items already available, which meant I could spend the day cooking and not running off to the store to try and find unrefined coconut oil. :-)Rosemary Chicken Salad with Herb Balsamic Vinaigrette. I love chicken so you'll see that's a theme in both my cooking and my eating. In this case, I've made Rosemary Chicken Salad in the past, although not following ketogenic rules, so this was the first I chose. Unfortunately there was a typo and the last ingredient in this recipe has dropped off the page, apparently never to be found again. Now normally, I would have been concerned but because it was me, I decided to go through the recipe anyway and I made a substitution with parsley for the missing ingredient. And it turned out well, and I still don't know what that last item should have been. But it didn't matter. The salad was delicious!Chicken and Blueberry Salad was next. I told you I was a chicken lover. Believe me there are other things in this cookbook, it just happened that I also like Blueberries, so this appealed to me. This is an incredibly easy salad to make. You cook the chicken, put the salad ingredients in a large bowl, mix the chicken in, divide into two bowls, and viola! And the blueberries are so good in a salad too!Bacon and Egg Fat Bombs were next. And yes, the title of these sort of turned me off, until I remembered you'll be eating fats and proteins in this diet all the time, so why not. I'm also nuts about eggs (something about them coming out of a chicken, I guess). These were just plain good. The only real cooking to them was to bake the bacon until browned and to hard boil the eggs. After that you ended up basically with egg balls that were rolled in crumbled bacon and what was really great is that you can store them in the fridge for up to a week. :-)The last one I tried was totally self serving. Vanilla Bean Cupcakes. These required a trip to Trader Joe's to get everything I needed, but that wasn't a bad thing. These cupcakes are easy to make and the recipe is easier to follow than my normal vanilla cupcake recipe. And they have Vanilla Cream Cheese Frosting. Try saying no to that.In closing, I'll say a couple of things about the cookbook. It should have more pictures, but I totally get that adding as many pictures as you would need to cover all the recipes would make the book quite large. So I'll forgive them this, mainly because these recipes are basic. You aren't building a masterpiece where you need a picture to follow. Believe me, these are easy to follow without any pictures at all. And there ARE pictures, but not at each individual recipe page.This book contains just about everything I would think of cooking - snacks, sweets (just not the kind loaded with sugar), main courses (herb chicken and a beef casserole that looks really good), breakfasts, lunches, desserts, biscotti, flans, and pretty much everything else I could think of. The other big added value in this book is the meal plan. A lot of people fail at this type of diet because they lose sight of what they'll make for dinner (or breakfast or lunch) throughout the week. I took a good hard look at the meal plan in this book and it covers enough days, 30!! Plus it doesn't give you the same things to eat over and over again. If you follow it, you'll have variety in your diet every day and will still be following the ketogenic diet.There are a few typos, like the missing ingredients, but they are minor in my opinion. Minor mainly because I substituted parsley in one case (and I'm pretty sure that is what it was) and it turned out fine. And if you can't figure out a missing letter in a simple word, then maybe you need to use a picture book.I hesitated to give this a five star rating, mainly because I only tried four recipes so far, PLUS it really needs pictures, however I'm going to give Geoff Ramsay the five stars anyway. A lot of work went into this and despite needing more pictures, as easy as my four recipes were to make, he deserves the extra stars. If a Keto diet is something you want to try, I don't believe you could go wrong with starting out with this cookbook.

I found this book to get right to the issues of explaining what this diet is all about, very detailed about what to eat and why. Approximately 3/4 of the book is recipes and meal planning, which is a good thing, because without that I would probably not know how to eat properly without getting bored and quitting. To be true to this diet it will be a bit restrictive from what I am used to eating, even though I try to eat healthy now. So that is where the recipes will help to keep on track. I did have some questions like how do I measure the number of ketones in my body, but I can research that I guess. I am of the baby boomer age where I am finding that the belly fat is just gaining on me and it seems that I have been only able to go one step forward and two steps backwards. I was not aware of this diet and will certainly give it a try. I have not had the chance yet to try the recipes but they actually sound good and am looking forward to tying a good many of them. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review.

This cookbook has to be one of the most informative cookbooks about Keto that I have found. The recipes look good and I can not wait to try them. The introduction chapters really helped me to understand what Keto is and how to go about beginning my Keto journey.

I’m trying to change my diet into a ketogenic one and this book give great advice in how to do the transition and the recipes are easy and very tasteful. We are what we eat! A very helpful book to eat and stay healthy .

About the Author

After National Service in the Royal Air Force Harry Woolridge applied for a job in the Service Department at the Triumph Engineering Company, and was lucky enough to be selected. Thus began a working relationship with Triumph and its motorcycles that would last thirty years: an experience Harry says he would not have missed at any price. After a few years in the Service Department, Harry joined the team in the Experimental department until he was promoted to the position of Assistant Quality Control Manager. Later, in a reshuffle of titles, he became Inspection Foreman for Motorcycle Assembly and Production Development. With the formation of the Meriden Co-operative, Harry served as Warranty/Service Manager until the factory closed in 1983.

As the title says, the Bible

Excellent information on pre war triumphs, lots of very good details of each motorcycles. Recommend to be read before any pre war triumph restorations

A must have book for any Triumph thunderbird or speedtwin owner or restorer.Informative,interesting and easy to read. Backed up with quality photos and period information and advertising prints.

This has to be the definitive reference for restoration of Speedtwins and Thunderbirds. From the careful dating and engine number cataloging of upgrades and new features on these bikes to colour matching with modern paint systems this one has it all. Also included are many photographs and articles from original publications. A great read too!
