Amazing. I bought this as a gift for my husband as we are both huge Stephen King fans. He was completely surprised. It looks exactly the way I would have imagined it from the Dark Tower novels and follows that story perfectly.I really don't know why some people are saying it has nothing to do with Dark Tower. May be time for a re-read of the series if you don't remember this.

Who wouldn't love a children's book by Stephen King?!? It's great little stand alone story that fits perfectly with the one described in the Dark Tower series. While it's illustrations are a little on the troubling side, but not too obvious, it's still a good overall kids story. My 7 year old found it and wanted me to read it to him at bed time. I hesitantly agreed. He loved it and now it's one of his favorite bed time stories!

A Charlie by any other name... A great book that mimics the one in Wastelands in all but two ways. First: no 'buy war bonds' ad inside. Second: instead of "Sometimes the other engineers laughed at bob," It's now "The other engineers laughed at bob." Enough of a difference to tickle Calvin Tower I wot.

This children's book is just as creepy as it was in the Dark Tower series. Any fans of Mid-World need to own and read this book! The pictures are super creepy, and I would not recommend it for children- this one is for adults who want to read a book from before the world moved on.

If you're a tower fan you know what this is and already love it. Ignore the low star reviews because they obviously aren't hard core king or tower fans. Perfect! Exactly what I expected.Now if you've not read the tower you might be a tad confused about our friend Charlie and why it is a kids story and short ... and if that is you I say go forth and read the tower, and you will understand.

Naysayers...Grow a sense of humor. This is a fiction within a fiction and the novelty of it aligns perfectly with S.K.'s sense of humor, my cullies. It is for people who are intimately familiar with the term CONSTANT READER.....That Stephen King is a trig cove, so he is.....

Everything you’d expect, no needed, from this book. It couldn’t be better. But beware... this is a book for children from a time gone by. This book is not for children from any world that’s moved on.

Read the Gunslinger series from Stephen King and you will understand the nuances of this story. The illustrations have an opposite ironic text than the overly happy, sugary storyline. Just creepy enough to be brilliant, but I wouldn't buy this book for the kiddies unless you want to scare them to death! Buhahahaha!!!

Mainly, it's a book about how uprooted Native American students at the Carlisle school, coached by a man who motivated his players to use the game of football to even score of what whites had inflicted on their people, were able over the course of many arduous seasons to finally and decisively demonstrate their superior teamwork, endurance and athletic prowess to the condescending football elites of their time: Yale, Harvard, Princeton and Penn. Handsomely produced, beautifully illustrated, fully researched with exhaustive notes and bibliography, this book is rarity in modern day publishing. Has anyone purchased the movie rights for it?

My son needed to pick a book for a report at school. He is REALLY into sports, and particularly football. He wanted to pick a sports book, so I encouraged him to find one on Jim Thorpe. He was reluctant, since he had never heard of Jim Thorpe. He read this book in five days and loved every minute of it. Hats off to Mr. Sheinkin for a well-researched book that is great reading for kids and adults alike. I'm so happy that my son now shares my admiration for this American sports legend.

Great read, having been born & raised in Oklahoma all my life it's particularly interesting to know personaly the of places of Thorpe's youth. An amazing individual who overcame great odds to become the greatest athlete in tbe 20th century.

Read it in two days. It's a page turner with amazing photos. Very well researched. Thank you for writing this eye-opening book.

Amazing book. I learned so much about history and Jim Thorpe. I loved it and don't even like football. I can't believe how much I learned!

Excellent book. I was instantly drawn in and remained fully engaged throughout. It’s fair to say I could hardly put it down. It painted such a vivid portrait of Jim Thorpe and the other Carlisle Indian School Boys, at the same time it smashed through stereotypes as easily as Jim Thorpe himself ran through the line.

This book is a must read for any football fan...there were things in here I never knew concerning the origins of the game of football and how great an athlete Jim Thorpe was...really shows and brings to light some negatives as well as positives of American culture as well as some dark times in the nations history as it concerns how a whole culture of people were treated versus how they should have been treated at the turn of the 20th Century...well written book...reads like a tragedy...I highly recommend! You will learn something when you finish this book...I appreciate the authors research and honesty in the subject matter...

It has been a while since I bought this book but it rings in my memory. The "Why" folktales enable young learners to ask and engage in problem solving.

A bit over my 3 year old’s head. Better for 4+.

This is a great story, my child is a big young but I expect we will read this often and hopefully teach the kids to not waste.

This is a fun story which speaks to the effects of greed.

My 3 year old daughter loves this book so much. Teaches morals too. I like that this book helps a child expand his or her imagination.

It was a great story for a 7 year-old. Love the illustrations and the story.

Beautiful story

I used this story as part of a presentation on Nigeria to elementary school classes from K to 5th graders. The text and pictures pair up to tell this wonderful folk tale that has been handed down through the years but whose message remains important for our children to learn today: responsibility belongs to everyone when it comes to wisely using our resources.

The most useful of the several SAT math books we tried with our kids. The explanations are clear, and the questions seem true to the real SAT. Between this and the several (eight, as of now) free sample tests online from the College Board, there was all the practice we needed to raise math scores from the low 400s to the low 600s. Note that this is the same book that was previously titled the "Kaplan SAT Math Workbook."

This course raised my daughter’s SAT scores by 100 points. This may not sound like much, but it’s just what was needed for her college admissions.

After numbering the problems with 1, 2, 3, ...they listed the answer choices also as 1, 2, 3, 4. Very odd for test prep. I did not like the digital layout. Pages depended on the magnification you set on your digital device and had to readjust as problems were completed. The digital version is prob a whole lot worse than the hardcopy.
