What a challenging book. Nugent takes a critical look at the church world of trying to fix the world through well-meaning acts of service. For years we've been trying to help people understand that sometimes giving, and fixing, do not really change the circumstances of people. Certainly there are times when relief is needed, but too often well-meaning church folks continue giving long after the crisis ends. And in so giving steal the dignity of the people with whom they are working. Nugent makes abundantly clear through an exposition of Scripture that "fixing" the world is not the task of the church - that task or mission is expressing love and honor to God for his reconciliation. When the church is taking care of it's own members, living a kingdom-centered life, then the world wants to know more about how they can join this kingdom. Nugent reminds his readers too many churches are so focused on meeting their perceived needs of the world they neglect to live kingdom-centered lives, or they ignore the needs of the world, focusing on "getting to heaven," which is just as mistaken as the mission of the church.Read the book. Let Nugent's clear exposition of the Scripture challenge your view of the mission of the church, and provide guidelines for being the kingdom-centered body the church is called to be. And when that occurs how the church ministers to the needs of society at large.

This book addresses a crucial question about the church’s role in society and history: Should it focus (not exclusively but primarily) on fixing the world (i.e. on making it a more safe and comfortable place) or instead on being a community that embodies God’s future kingdom as a foretaste of (and a sign pointing to) it? In other words how are we to advance God’s kingdom—by politically imposing it on others or by exemplifying it to them? Those are two very different ways of being in the world. Professor Nugent makes the case for the latter. This book really resonated with me in that it brought a clearer focus and understanding to me as to the path/journey that I have been on for a while now. It brought clarification to me as to the ways my perspective has been and continues to be changed almost daily and gives credence to my desires and longings. And it helped me to see that I'm reallt not crazy, but am actually seeking the Kingdom of God. It gave me the words for I am and where I am heading.

I received this cute little Shark-Opedia Name that Shark- the Kindle Edition and read it the first night to my girlfriend’s daughter she is in love with animals. I found that when trying to read it on the tablet it would cut the photos in half at times. I even tried it on the computer I think that the overall book was not meant to be an e-book which is disappointing as the shark photos are quite beautiful. I think the children’s book is a great book and that it was done very well. The information that was provided was just perfect for a child to learn more fun facts about our animals under the sea.We still enjoyed the book even with the photos cut off; we even went so far as trying to figure out which tail belonged to which shark. (it was perfect she is only 4). The book contains about 50 pages of photos and information. The “Did you know?” was a nice bonus as it helped to give her (and me) an overall idea about each shark. It is a great little book to share with any animal lover. Generally, regardless of the photos cut off we went through this book so many times that I think I can recite it from memory.Disclaimer: I received this product at a discount in exchange for my fair and honest review. Do you watch Shark Week yourself or with kids? Do you find these creatures completely fascinating? Do you pretend your tortilla chip is a salsa shark? We do and couldn't resist a look at a Sharkopedia. The first thing you see is an adorable illustration of a shark that induced chuckling. Swipe to next page, there's an intimidating real shark and some squealing occurs.The book has super cool photos of different sharks and their names intermingled with interesting facts about sharks. First fact was frustrating because it ended with saying a number was lower than we likely imagined and then didn't give us the number! The rest of them didn't frustrate like that thankfully.Once when we were at an aquarium years ago there was an educator who did an insanely fun and funny fish puppet educational thing led by Hammy, the hammerhead shark. Instantaneously the hammerhead shark became our favorite shark and still is to this day. This book gives several other popular ones like the zebra and blacktip. There's a few sharks that don't have a picture-the tiger shark being one of them but there's a cool fact included about them. Overall this book is a lot of fun and definitely recommended. I did receive this at a free or discounted rate in exchange for my honest review. At the time of this writing the Kindle edition is free-grab it! The paperback is $11 which is way too much for this book. If you found this review helpful please click yes below as I do my best to share my experience with the book.

Great book. Just what you would expect: pictures of sharks, and text descriptions about sharks. Nothing really new from what other reviewers have written. Just one point: I like it when text is placed over photos. Not that this is always a good thing or necessary, but it makes me feel like I'm getting more content. The layout of this book, by making a double-page spread of one large photo, and then adding text over the water part, makes use of a larger photo and gives a child a larger photo of a shark to look at. (The didn't do this on all the pages for all the sharks, but there was a handful of instances of them.) Unfortunately, on a computer screen, or even the Kindle that I'm using, I can't view 2 pages at once. I need to really dig into the setting to clarify this, but unfortunately, I can't find a setting where I can view double pages. I would hope that this being sold by Amazon and that using an Amazon eBook I would have that option. I am hoping that they do that in the future.This book has 48 full color full page photos of sharks sharks sharks. Descriptions range from a sentence to a short paragraph. I think it would be appropriate reading for 1st-2nd graders or read to younger children. There are no violent photos in they book.I received this product at a free or discounted rate in exchange for an honest review. These opinions are my own as I appreciate and rely on honest and accurate reviews from others when making purchases.

About the Author

John Agard and Grace Nichols were brought up in Guyana and moved to Britain in 1977. Both are well-known writers and performers of poetry. Their poetry collections for Walker are Under the Moon and Over the Sea (9781406309591) - Winner of the CLPE Poetry Award - and From Mouth to Mouth (9780744583830). A new collection of nonsense poems from all around the world (Pumpkin Grumpkin) is publishing in September 2011. John and Grace live in Sussex. Cathie Felstead is an illustrator whose titles include South and North, East and West (9781406309188). She visited the Caribbean to inspire her illustrations in this collection; she lives in Hertfordshire.

I'm very picky about the books I purchase about western occultism. After purchasing this book, I was happy with the content. It wasn't on the same level as David Griffin, but it gave me what I needed in a supplemental Golden Dawn resource.I've read many reviews on "Self-Initiation...". I respect the differing opinions presented therein. They appear to fall into a few categories:Those that are members and like it as a supplemental resourceThose that are members and don't respect the concept of self-initiation, or learn magick from a book without mentorshipThose that are beginners to magick; or atleast to ceremonial magick and are frightened by the depth of curriculumI belong to the first group. I have been initiated by two ceremonial groups and one Wiccan group. I have over 20 years experience with different paths. I chose to study the Golden Dawn system, though I am reluctant to join the Golden Dawn, because I have an affinity to other Gods than typically used for the group. However, with my experience, it isn't that difficult to utilize corresponding archetypes. As far as utilizing planetary, zodiac, and various other concepts that scare the beginner; I think that before taking on such a task, some formal training and mentorship is essential. With this training in place, it is very practical to use this book.I agree that if you want to be officially recognized within a particular grade, then-by all means-join the Golden Dawn. If however, you simply want the training, this is not a bad resource.

The rituals in this book are very daunting. You are asked to visualize like 40 characters and interact with them during ritual. This is because in a Golden Dawn ritual in a real temple, all these people would be there. If you are already self-initiating, it seems illogical to pretend you are there, recieving a real initiation; you are not. I haven't decided if I will follow the ceremonies as written or drop the characters and make the ceremonies between me and the Universe.There is also strong debate as to if one can truly be self-initiated into the Golden Dawn. The book will hold value to your personal spirituality and practice of magic but a lodge will not recognize you as initiated. I go back and forth on what I believe about this.It is important to note that this kind of magic deals with evoking spirits, dealing with forces and energies and tinkering with nature. Magic is like chemistry, a self taught chemist might burn himself or burn his house down. The more I study about this type of stuff, the more I realize that without proper training from a sorcerer or magician, you will dabble in a muddy mix of spirits and energies and risk bad things happening to you. I am willing to practice this magic to an extent, but to truly deal with the spirits one should be trained.I invite others to leave their own understanding as comments to help me out.

I rate this a 3 because, while very detailed, there was little overview a what concepts were holistically. I summary of concept at the beginning and concluding at the end of each section would have pulled it all together for me. Often concepts overlap and seem repetitive to the point where it becomes confusing when advancement level differ by seeming trivial detail.This is an okay book, but I'm not sure I got the message.

The Self Initiation into the Golden Dawn has been something I have been looking forward to for a while. Basically this will do exactly that, and do it well. However do not look to this book for more abstract or advanced magical practices or mental development; this really is just the start and some may consider it an unnecessary formality. I probably do. That, however, does not take away from the fact that this book does exactly what it says it was and that is why I give it a four star rating. Yes this is a sizable book at a low cost but size is hardly as important as content and certainly does not make up for it.Realistically the modern magician is going to probably need or at least want a personal library of many subject related text which comes with a hefty price tag. This should be one of those books, and at about 25$, it will be one of the less expensive additions to your collection.These authors are also very good to check out:Franz BardonLiz Greene

I've found this useful in comprehending the process of initiation through the Golden Dawn schools. However, to truly have a self-initiated experience, I think one would need to have an extra resource at their disposal for a more in-depth look. This book along with David Griffin's "Ritual Magick Manual" will do wonders for the solitaries wishing to dedicate to the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn path.

Excellent resource for those working the Golden Dawn Initiatory path. Outside of the "self-initiation debate". This is a great resource that has almost all of the theoretical background on the Golden Dawn System of magick. If you wanted to be a minimalist, you could get by with just this book and Dave Griffin's "Ritual Magick Manual". These two books will have you doing Golden Dawn Ritual magick right away.This book as all the knowledge lectures and initiation rituals of the Golden Dawn's outer order. It also adds the needed astrology.

Good supplement to Israel Regardie's Golden Dawn book. The Rituals would be rather difficult to preform alone but not beyond those who apply themselves to the task. Not a shortcut but just another tool to the path.

Overexpanded curriculum on all the grades of the outer order of the G.*.D.*., This book will definitely assist one throughout each grade whether in an order or working as a solo practitioner.

I truly enjoyed this book. It is a captivating, personal, and honest account of 13 tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. No bull, just like you’d expect a Ranger to speak to you. I was amazed by the sheer number and rapidity of missions that Rangers performed and the speed with which they planned and executed critical missions on the battlefield. A very special book that recounts a long, proud military career from start to startling finish.

I truly loved this book. It was insightful as to what our soldiers do and go through to protect our country. RLTW

Great book. My son who is a quad really loved listening on his Kindle. When he was finished he said he wished that there was more. Would recommend this book to everyone.

Very well written. Fast paced as the Rangers themselves. Amazing what they accomplish night after night. Well trained and very slick in their operations, I would hate to face off against them! Absolutely admirable warriors!

For me this book is a first hand account of what our Rangers really do that no knows about. This book took me there as I was reading it and felt I could see this all unfolding as I read. It is a well written book through the eyes of Nicholas Moore as it was all unfolding. Very scary stuff! I am very proud of this Army Ranger for climbing the ladder at age 18 to the last day of his service with ALL that he has accomplished. This Ranger is my nephew. What an AWESOME adventure! It is a MUST read for military and civilians. Maureen Razor

I can’t even begin to say enough good stuff about this book! The book is truly deserving of all the accolades it has already received. Having served with Nick I can say without a doubt, he is the epitome of what a Ranger leader in the 75th Ranger Regiment should be! Well done, brother!

After reading so many rave reviews, I have to admit I was disappointed in this book not so much in the content but in the dry, monotonous writing style, which at least for me lacked the passion and dramatic build-up of similar books. Seems like so much of the verbiage was needlessly repetitive, and as much as I respect and admire the Rangers, their mantra "Rangers lead the way" was overused so much, there were instances when I thought I was reading the same pages twice. Was also a bit surprised of the many negative comments directed at Navy Seals and Marcus Luttrell as it was evident the author seems perhaps to resent the level of fame and adulation that Seals receive these days. On the other hand, I do appreciate his being willing to share his candid and unfiltered views here. Again, I have nothing but the utmost respect for the job and sacrifice made by the writer and his fellow hero Rangers on behalf of the country but was just less than captivated with the book itself.

This is a great book, this man is 1000% American awesomeness! Thanks to his parent for making a good dude! We need more like him. He has lots of interesting deployments and wish he could tell all his stories in more detail but I really like this one! Especially the frank truth about lone survivor and extortion 17 but there is so much more than that in this book. Thank you for your service!
