Unsure whether I'm reviewing the physical book or its contents. As a volume, you've probably already held one in your hands, or any other comparable hymnal of another stripe. The print is clear, the paper is white. Solidly bound for regular use.As a tool of the faith, well...I shouldn't even get started. Too many instances of hymns where all you get it is the melody, not the full harmonization. (In fairness, the latest LC-MS hymnal is also guilty of this.) Some longstanding, gratuitous word changes in the liturgy are still there, most notably the substitution of "catholic" in place of "Christian" that occurred way back in the green LBW, and new affronts such as changing from "Peace to His people on Earth" to "Peace to God's people on Earth" while still keeping every other masculine pronoun and reference to God the Father. I mean, what's the point of this? Either go all-in and ditch the traditional masculine forms, or don't--otherwise it's just throwing a bone to some interest group somewhere.
This book was sent very fast and in very good shape. I enjoy it very much and use it a lot. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves Lutheran songs and liturgical readings. Very nice book of worship!
Needed for practice at home. The book is in good condition. It is the correct edition. As a standard reference book, there is little to extoll unless it may be the range of musical styles included and the multiple indices that are useful in planing liturgical services.
The new Lutheran worship book is a wonderful resource, both for congregational worship and private devotions.The 10 settings of the Eucharist provide a rich variety of musical styles and liturgies. I've been involved with two congregations who have adopted ELW, to almost universal praise.The prayers and daily lectionary make it a valuable tool for private devotions.
This is the standard Lutheran hymnal with front matter covering the church calendar, propers, and standard text for all church ceremonies such as weddings, confirmation, and so on.
Ordered this hymnal because of some of the newer style hymns. It was in excellent shape and am looking forward to trying some new songs.
This is a vast improvement over the old, green Lutheran hymnal, which had defects in its over-reliance on 16th century German Lutheran hymns.That said: there were some hymns from the old, green hymnal which I wish could have been included, but there are also practical considerations on just how thick a hymnal can be.Still, this is a VAST improvement and a much-needed update over the previous hymnal. I especially appreciate the inclusion of some really nice hymns from Africa and Central/South America; and a selection of ten musical settings of the Lutheran liturgy.
The book absolutely met my expectations. I purchased a very good condition used book and it was exactly in very good condition, looked almost new.
