I find myself thanking God that Muriel's daughter moved forward on putting their experience into this format. The book has two sections. The first will answer all your questions about how the counseling or discipleship experience should work from a lay person's perspective. She tells you more than you realized you need to know, and it's broken down into practical steps and elements that make learning from the author's vast experience simple. The second part will give you valuable tools, guidelines, and projects to help you experience healing for yourself and/or to guide others through their own healing process.The book is profoundly Christian with lots of scripture references. The instructions and explanations are direct and plainly written. The suggestions are practical and you will benefit from this book every time you pick it up and read from it. The discussion questions in the back of the book are relevant, meaningful, and not the typical weakly-designed questions in many group discussion books. The questions are clearly thought out to bring you through the process of learning this methodology and to help you grow your own experience and resources of scriptural references.This book is truly amazing and these sentiments are repeated weekly by the women in my discussion group. Put simply, when I am done with the book, you can't have it! Actually, I can't imagine a time when I would be done with the book until I have years of experience. Well worth the paperback cost. I am currently buying books to augment my son's first grade history and I LOVE this one. It is factual without being overly graphic and depicts her whole life, thus giving scope of all Helen Keller overcame. I am looking forward to introducing him to Braille and sign language as mention in the biography. Excellent depiction of an amazing woman and the people who helped her.

Helen Keller's story inspired me as a young girl. I am so glad I can now share this story with my son. My son is in fourth grade, but if your child reads very well this book could definitely be read by younger readers. This story is also a great way to teach children about accepting others, as well as overcoming the various limitations that life puts on us.

This book series is perfect for my students! I especially like the fact that there are quite a few interesting, educational options in this series, and not just narrative options.

After watching a cartoon on Helen Keller, my daughter (2nd grade) was intrigued by the story of Helen Keller. So I purchased this book for her. She finished it in a matter of minutes, but she did enjoy the read and pictures. Great starter book.

A great read for modern business - the key insight is that Ideas are Free - it costs nothing to have a great, marketing dominating IDEA. You just need the right people and the right circumstance - pity that most firms have too few right people and run an operation that does not provide ideas with the best possible opportunity to live and grow.If your assets (people and their knowledge) walk out the door every evening, this is a great book to awake you to the need to provide the reasons for them to come back tomorrow morning !The only problem is that all of this is in the first 60% of the book - the rest is a collection of assorted stuff to fill up the required space.Worth a read - try to borrow a copy - buy a copy if this option fails - it is worth the investment.

Stewart divides his book into three parts supplemented by an afterword and appendix. He examines The Information Age: Context, Intellectual Capital: Content, and The Next Connection. He attempts to "make sense of the dramatically changing world in which we work" by focusing on three separate but related components of the Information Age: Human Capital ("the capabilities of individuals required to provide solutions to customers"), Structural Capital ("the organizational abilities of the organization to meet market requirements...to codify bodies of knowledge that can be transferred, to preserve the recipes that might otherwise be lost"...and "to connect people to data, experts, and expertise -- including bodies of knowledge -- on a just-in-time basis"), and Customer Capital ("the value of an organization's relationships with whom it does business"). Of the three, Stewart considers customer capital "the most obviously valuable" and yet customer capital "is probably-- and startingly when you think about it -- the worst managed of all intangible assets."One of the most important chapters is Chapter 5. "The Treasure Map" contains information which can prove far more valuable to a company than any gold buried by pirates in the Caribbean. As with that gold, however, intellectual capital must first be appreciated; located and recovered; and then organized and managed with meticulous care. Hence the importance of Chapter 9 in which Stewart offers ten principles for managing intellectual capital. Over past years a lot of book investigating "the value of human resource as a competitive advantage" in organizations was published but none of them explained us what human resource and value mean in the larger context of competition, what are practical ways to use of this very competitive resource on behalf of the organization. I herald that this book gives the absolute framework we need for a new and comprehensive study on intellectual capital.According to Stewart, Intellectual Capital is consisted of three interconnected parts, namely, Human Capital, Structural Capital and Customer Capital. Human Capital means the knowledge and skill level of corporate personnel. If an organization has a personnel inventory whose knowledge and skills are vital in the long-run, the first part of the capital forms a strong base to capitalize on. The other part of Intellectual capital, Customer Capital, means that organization is producing value for its customers and accordingly custemers have a strong loyalty to the company. The last part of Intellectual capital is Structural capital which connects Human Capital and Customer Capital to each other. Organizations need structural systems to use human resource in order to meet customers' needs and wants in a more effective way which other companies can not imitate without incurring high costs and time loss.You will find a lot of living examples intended to make these abstract concepts understandable to readers who are accomodated to hear many pop-ups regarding human capital and its value. Overall, I strongly recommend with five stars.

I hardly ever write reviews but I feel compelled to share my wife, Robyn's, experience after five weeks on Dr. Fuhrman's diet. At 190 pounds and 5' 8", she was about 50 pounds overweight. She had been on Glipizide for diabetes, Atenolol and Lisinopril for high blood pressure, and Gemfibrozil for high triglycerides. Her last A1C was 9.5; well in the danger zone for diabetics. Most of her fasting blood glucose readings were above 200.After the initial five weeks, she is off all of those medications. Her last blood pressure reading was 117/78. Her fasting glucose hovers around 90-100. She has already lost 15 pounds as well.Tonight, we decided to have a cheat meal. She ate a full filet of salmon with two cobs of corn and a full cup of great northern beans with onions and garlic. This is a meal with nearly 100 carbs that should have sent her blood glucose soaring. Two hours after this meal her blood glucose was 97! We didn't believe that was possible so we measured it a second time and it was 94.Needless to say, tomorrow we will be back on this diet permanently with only an infrequent special occasion to interrupt it. The food is satisfying and the results are phenomenal!If you suffer from type 2 diabetes but are willing to dedicate yourself to this diet, make no mistake, it will reverse your disease and give you a great chance at a long, complication-free life.Thank you, Dr. Fuhrman!8-17-2016 UPDATENew test results from recent blood work:Triglycerides six week ago - 259. Now 110Total cholesterol six weeks ago - 193. Now 173.A1C six weeks ago - 8.9. Now 7.3. (Since A1C is a three month average that 7.3 is taking into account the prior two months of pre-diet eating. When adjusted for that, it actually would be an A1C for the last month of around 5.0.)Blood pressure: 118 over 72.All without medication and only four weeks on the diet!

Great information in the book. My only complaints are: The recipes to follow in this book are ridiculous. The doctor calls for a lot of special seasonings and sauces from his website that are $$$. And he uses carrot juice as a base for a lot of stuff- and it is expensive. Unless you have your own juicer and want to buy a ton of carrots to keep up with what the recipes call for. Take home I got is to eat a more plant based diet. Limit meats- eat more beans/nuts... Cut the refined carbs. Eat fruit... there is a membership to this doc's website, but I decided not to get it bc the docs recipes are not practical and the membership is pricey.

This book has totally changed my life! I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in early October. After seeing my results online, I was on Amazon looking at diabetic cookbooks as I knew I was going to have to totally change my diet. I came across this book and the title caught my eye. I read what I could online and immediately had it sent to my Kindle so I could begin reading it right away. When I received the diagnosis, I refused to go on medication and allow this diagnosis to control my life. I started this eating plan on October 14th. In 6 weeks my A1C dropped my 11% to 6.9%! I had also lost 30 pounds. My doctor was amazed and I am on no medication. It was a little hard at first, because I was used to eating a lot of fast food, cookies, crackers etc.. and I knew this would be a big change for me. But when you begin to understand what all the bad food is doing to your body, it gives you a whole new understanding. Though a couple of times at the beginning I was tempted to not continue I had to remind myself what was at stake. Either go on medication to "manage" my diabetes or totally changed my eating lifestyle and not be on any medication. I also had my lipid panel checked again on Jan. 12th, and my cholesterol numbers have completely reversed and are amazing and my blood pressure is also great. I have lost a total of 40 pounds and am no longer shopping "plus size" clothes. Several people at work have commented on my weight loss and have asked me what I'm doing. I have shared this book with so many people including my two sisters and the nurse at my Dr.s office also wanted to know what I was doing. If you have type 2 diabetes, you need to buy this book! It will totally change your life!

I was diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes and put on Metformin on June 26th, 2013. I started the ADA diet and followed it 100% for a few weeks and could not get my blood sugar to go below 140. Finally i began to panic and called my doctor, he told me to get used to it. He said I would be on metformin my whole life and eventually insulin. At that point i knew something wasn't right and began to do a lot of research. On July 13th I went to the book store and found this book after looking at 10 or so others. I read the book from end to end that night because everything Dr. Fuhrman was saying made absolute sense. I started the diet that day and the next morning my blood sugar was down to 100, the next day was in the 90's and now i have a fasting blood sugar between Mid 70's and the 80's. My doctor took me off the metformin after just one week of being on this lifestyle change. I have lost over 30 pounds in a month. I now work out twice a day and still have tons of energy. I have lost 6+ inches around my waist and I am off my high blood pressure medication too. I have about 20 more pounds to go till my body finds its ideal weight. The great news is, this is a lifestyle I can live with, it makes sense and it works. God Bless Dr. Fuhrman. I wish the ADA would stop enabling consumers and tell them the truth. You can get off the drugs, you can help yourself, but you have to have a correct lifestyle and diet. No more processed foods.
