About the Author
Portland illustrator and fine artist Lisa Congdon, named one of 2015's 40 Women over 40, was raised in both upstate New York and Northern California where she grew to love the trees and animals that surrounded her. That love is now expressed through her paintings and drawings. Lisa is predominantly self taught and did not begin painting until she was 31 years old. She is also a prolific collector of old and unusual things and surrounds herself with these things in her home & studio. In 2010 she chronicled her collections in her Collection A Day 2010 Project. That project is now a book, published in March 2011. In 2012, Lisa engaged in another daily project called 365 Days of Hand Lettering, 100 of her hand lettered quotes from that project published by Chronicle Books in Spring of 2014. Lisa is also the author of 50 Ways to Draw a Tulip, Just Add Color: Folk Art, Just Add Color: Geometric Patterns, and Draw 500 Fabulous Flowers. I have the original how to draw a tulip and admit I didn't realize this was the same book until I had ordered it. Howover the smaller size served it's purpose for me and I have used it many times since I have had it. I highly recommend it. I love Lisa Condon's work. This book is a good nudge in the right direction to start your own style.
I love Lisa Congdon. I first found her on CreativeBug and enjoyed her classes there very much. This book is smaller than I thought it would be, but there is still room on the pages to practice drawing your own flowers. Some of the drawings seem very simple to me as a beginner, but most look more intermediate to me. there are many different styles and types of flowers, so there is something for everyone. I bought this used, and it came in excellent condition which made me really happy. thank you Lisa!
For nearly $12, I expected this to be SO much better. The book does nothing to show you how to draw the actual flowers. Also, the examples aren't cute and they don't look fun. I'm not inspired to try drawing any of these examples. I'd return it but it's not even worth the time or shipping cost to send it back. Her coloring books are much better and cheaper to boot.
I love this little book! It's small enough to carry in my purse. I pull it out in the doctor's office or anywhere I might have to wait for awhile.It's a great conversation starter too!All of the flowers are inspiring and I find myself doodling flowers when I'm at work. I do need to pack multiple size markers; so far I've only had a micropen with me, and I'd like to have some broader tips for coloring in petals.
I'm not a fan of this series of books. The main reason being that they don't really teach you anything. It's simply a bunch of pages with doodles of whatever the subject matter is with some blank in the pages so you can try your hand in drawing them yourself. If you are using them simply for inspiration and already know how to draw then these may be for you.
I simply love this little book, it's so sweet and really gets the creative juices flowing. Fun to have and look at
A great reference and practice book. I used it as a reference will working through the hundred day project.
I wanted this book to help me draw flowers on a chalk board and the pictures helped me draw simple flower designs.
