This is book has become my Moon bible! The author is grounded and her knowledge is impressive. I thought it was going to be a book full of woo-woo; however, I was extremely delighted to find that it was based on history, science, and it included information on the Farmer's Almanac, with an added twist of fun stuff and recipes at the end. I highly recommend this book as it is just a really cool book.

I’m a little confused by all the sparkling reviews for this book. I definitely agree that it contains useful information, such as the scientific explanations behind moon phases and their magickal correspondences. Yet much seems to be aimed more at beginners as a lot of the basics are covered (such as the meaning of colors and what intention/ manifestation are). However, I REALLY appreciated the chapters on meditation.

Moon Magic is exactly as described "Your Complete Guide". It covers so much information and is very useful for a beginner such as myself who has never even thought about harnessing the energy of the Moon, yet was always drawn to it. I have taken many notes from this book and I know I will have to re-read it and will refer to this book often. It is excellent and I am so glad I decided to buy this book over all the other choices out there.

love this book Moon Magic and its sister book Moon Spells. covers the moon phases and what personal action to take during them. it intertwines also with setting intentions to ask her for her help to improve our lives and interactions in the world we live in. both books are a great investment.

Unfortunately, this book lacks depth. I was looking for something deeper. The author's writing style is more like that of a Blog rather than a book, which i do not care for. Aside from that, the actual information, like i said lacks depth. The information in this book can easily be found on Google or in any YouTube video. I was very disappointed. The only reason i plan to keep this book is because its aesthetically pleasing and looks beautiful on my bookshelf, other than that, i have no use for it.

Great for the new hand letterer with lots of tips and pages for practice.

I saw several reviews complaining that they did teach you how to write in more fonts that there was only about four and while there are (I counted) 5 fonts and 1 set of numbers that have trace and practice pages. It also shows layouts how to stretch your font and if you read it the author really pushes you to create your own by branching off of what is essentially hand fed to youIt also shows a handful of DIY ideas to incorporate your new found skills

I got this so I could learn hand lettering, having bad handwriting myself and not being very artistic. This book has been one of my 2 favorites. A good combination of practice pages, how-to's and ideas. Beautiful book and I'm so happy I bought it.

It is a learned skill that you must develop over time. A good reference book is going to be the author’s best portfolio examples, advise, and tips. In order to learn to produce creative work on a professional level it takes exposure to a variety of other people’s work which must be developed into your own style and practiced over years. This creative process is really what design is all about.

Good book but perhaps not detailed enough for a beginner like me. Need more instruction on how to form the letters and direction of pen.

I love this book! It's a great introduction to hand lettering techniques. The book starts with supply lists and a bit of vocabulary and goes through several lettering styles, adding color, and embellishments. The last chapter presents some project ideas. There is also plenty of advice on developing your own styles. And though it might be a minor thing, it gets bonus points for presentation. Just a beautiful book.If I have one complaint it's that there aren't more full alphabets presented. But don't let that be a deal breaker. There's plenty of other inspiration here.

If you want to learn how to make letters better (i.e., for a journal, bulletin board, personal note), you will like this book. The directions are easy, and you can learn at your own pace. The book includes plenty of practice pages. It will not teach you calligraphy.

Love this book. This book is beautiful and offers lots of practice tips and explanations of typography and script. I recommend this book for the beginner or anyone who would like to brush up or have a pretty book on hand to keep practicing with.

Now that we have moved to Maine, I thought that it might be nice to know more about what is right in our back yard. And although I don't spend much on Kindle content, I was so in the mood to read up on this that I sprang for the couple of dollars.I thoroughly enjoyed this easy-to-read treatment of all of the basics you need to know in order to make maple syrup. Three methods are explained, based on quantity: (1.) if you are tapping a couple of trees to make a couple of quarts, (2.) you will be tapping a dozen trees to tap and wish to make 5-10 gallons of syrup, and (3.) those who wish to be small commercial producers.As this book is called "a beginners guide" you wouldn't expect to find material on reverse osmosis or even a lot of the finer details about commercial methods, like the fact that you have to put different species of maples on different tubing systems because their timing will be different. As the small commercial producer will likely be investing in a "sugar bush" (some land with maple trees) I would hope that in that case you would plan to spend some more on a more thorough treatment of maple sugaring rather than this brief one.But it IS worth that couple of dollars. The text and editing were particularly nice and Lo and Behold there were Pictures on my Kindle. I can't say whether all of them were there from the booklet, but it was sure nice!Update: the particular Kindle edition I read and reviewed is "currently unavailable" so the version you are buying may differ. Hopefully it is even better!

I Like this book in that it told me what I needed to do enable to make some maple syrup from the trees in yard this year.We followed the book, got about 40 gallons of sap from the trees, boiled it down to about 1 gallon of syrup and caramel. You really need a candy thermometer to boil it down correctly, trust me.Any maple tree will work, the only difference is the ratios of sap to syrup you will obtain from boiling the sap.Lastly the Maple syrup from our trees her in the Blue Ridge Mountains is very, very sweet to may taste. We used it in several cooking dishes other than pancakes. It makes a wonderful new glaze for salmon.

I like it a lot! While it is short; it contains a solid base beginner level information to start the process for making maple syrup and gives an idea of what would be necessary to move to the next level. It is full of tips and facts that most beginners forget in their enthusiasm of making their own syrup and gives ideas of how to save a little money by being creative/a good recycler . I personally do not have any sugar maples around me yet, but I look forward to the day I do!

This book is packed with a LOT of information about Making Maple Syrup, and although it's not an encyclopedia on the subject, I learned a lot more than I ever expected, from a book that is small, and priced so reasonably.YOU WILL LEARN ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW, TO ACTUALLY MAKE MAPLE SYRUP ON YOUR OWN, and all about what items are needed, and different methods you can use.I didn't know a thing about making Syrup, and I do now, that says it all.

It takes you through the whole process at different scales of sugaring. If you only have one or two trees you can still use this book and if you have 100+ taps or anything in between this book will get you to making your maple. We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these books and have the entire set + many of the others. Parenting Tip: If you have a child who doesn't like to read, find something that they do like i.e. Weird But True (or any book or subject), and put those books in front of them. We have 2 elementary age kids, 1 who reads everything and 1 that struggles with reading. We love nonfiction, nerdy, funny, fact books so we use these books to engage our kids and learn cool things. Happy Reading!

I've ordered these books every year for my daughter for the past 6 years and she still loves them. I love that she has something to read in the car bc the books are smaller and easily fit into the pockets behind a seat in the car. Even more, I love the fun facts that she finds in her books and is always sharing. Also love that she's hung on to them for 6 years and I'm thinking she'll still love them for a more years. Great for beginner readers as well as kids that can read chapter books.

My son is 8 and absolutely loves to read. He sat down with this book and read the ENTIRE thing in one night! It took him a while, but this mom is NOT complaining about the hour or so of quiet time I had lol. It has all kinds of neat facts and is an easy read for kids. I'm going to see if they have any other types of books like these. Definite winner in our house!

Gift for 7 years old. He loved it and so did I. There are so many weird things but turned out true that I never thought of. It short, easy to read, but informative.

The first book we got of these was the Christmas one and then we were hooked so my children got the Mega set for Christmas. They are filled with all kinds of facts. Some useful, most not so much, but all interesting and fun!!!! I highly recommend!!!!

Fun book. I keep it in the back seat of my car and the kids flip through it on the road.

All my kids, young and old, enjoy reading through these books.

This book is amazing! The patterns turn out fantastic projects EVERY TIME! Yes, there are overlaps on the patterns ( so you might have to make more than one copy ~ OR , you can just trace the outlines of the ones you want ~ easy peasy!)but in my mind this is not a detriment at all. The author was able to impart many adorable patterns AND save trees at the same time ~ hey folks, that's a win-win! ;-D Truly, however, it was no problem at all simply make copies & trace. I bought this book as a way for my kids to learn about using patterns & successfully completing items that would inspire them to sew & create. This book did exactly that, and inspired me to make them as well! Every single object in the book is adorable, easy, fun, well-instructed, & just cute beyond all. The toys have a certain innocence about them reminiscent of a kinder, gentler era ~ 50's-60's ~. You would never feel awkward presenting any item in here to any child~ they are sweet & innocent.You will all be happy to know that Naomi Tabatha has produced at least 2 more books of adorable felt dolls, toys & accessories as well! I found mine on ebay, when I entered her name in the search bar.A word about the patterns~ they are dynamic, eye-popping, 3D, with lots of character ~ And her patterns are always correct. I never have to wonder if the time spent on the item will be a waste due to a wonky, ill-thought pattern ~ this simply does NOT happen with Naomi Tabatha's toys ~ I do reccomend stuffing very small amounts of fluff into every tiny nook & cranny, however~ use a chopstick or the blunt end of a bamboo skewer, and stuff fluff in small amounts, till the toy is packed HARD ~ this will bring out the very most character & dimension in these toys. If you can cut a shape, stitch a small seam, & patiently cram stuffing, you can make these.ps~ here's a hint to make these awesome toys go faster, so that you can make more ~ simply set your sewing machine on your widest zigzag ( mine is #4), make certain your felt edges are exactly in the center of your machine foot, & stitch slowly. For curves, stitch slowly, lifting & re-adjusting to match the curves to center of the machine foot. And do be certain to make at least 2 backward stitches to lock the seams at the beginning & end of every seam. At first, you might be dissapointed in how the zigzag looks, but if you stuff in small amounts, using a stick, & stuff firmly, the action of stuffing will draw apart the stitches, & help them look like tiny, perfect handstitched seams. Try it with darker felt colors & thread to begin with, then once you have gotten the idea down, try out some of the lighter colors with matching threads. We have had great success in making these this way, I can finish the larger toys in just an hour or 2! I hope this little hint helps someone out there. ;-Dpss~ I have also included some photos of our finished objects in the customer images link. I hope this helps you to see just how fantastic, easy, & adorable this book truly is!

This book contains a good number of projects--86 is stretching it a bit, since many of them are multiple uses of the same pattern (ie: Change the only ears and facial embroidery, and a cat becomes a bear, or change the applique and one bag pattern becomes three separate projects). However, I don't have any problems with that, as paying close attention allows you to learn how to tweak a pattern or design yourself.So far, I've stitched the deer (what I really bought this book for! I have desperately wanted a pattern for those darling kawaii fawns I've been seeing all over etsy and blogs!!) which came out better than the solo pattern I spent almost as much on, the small kitty at the beginning of the book, and used fleece instead of felt to make those cute little bags for my daughters. All patterns came out very nicely with little to no adaptation.A good number of the patterns are on the inside of the dust jacket, and although they overlap quite a lot, I found them very simple to trace and transfer to cardstock. There were only a few that weren't full sized; mainly the patterns for the bags (which I figured out easily enough without running to a photocopier), and the appliques for the larger bags (which I would need a photocopier for if I chose to do them). Everything else is already full size, unless you want to make a bigger version.I have moderate experience in reading and sewing to patterns, and already know all the basic stitches of hand sewing. That said, I think the patterns in the book could easily be understood by a beginning, though a bit of experience will certainly go a long way to helping you understand it. That could be said of any book though, could it not? XDOne nice thing to be said for this book is that every item that she shows you in the gallery has a pattern and instructions given--even the appliques, eyes, etc., are given in the pattern section, the only exceptions that I could find being the little mushroom and the trees in the background on the cover. Both of which would be easy enough to figure out given the techniques explained in the book.All in all, I'm very pleased with this book--I really can see myself making most of the items in it--just be prepared for all the items to be basically like what is shown on the cover! The patterns for felt flowers to be made from scraps are intriguing--I bought this book early spring and I can certainly see many of my friends getting pretty little felt flower displays as hostess gifts over the next little while! I like giving seasonal handmade stuff, since the recipient doesn't feel the need to keep it on display forever! LOLNow, if you'll excuse me, I have a whole host of little felties and sock creatures to make--the hazards of ordering a good number of craft books in one go! XD

My mother-in-law recently bought this for my husband to read while he was out on a temporary disability, and, since he only reads his car magazines, guess who settled down in front of the wood stove to read it? In "Massachusetts Curiosities," authors Bruce Gellerman and Erik Sherman, both Massachusetts residents, write with an amusing tongue-in-cheek humor that is both engaging and entertaining. They traverse the Bay State to bring us all kinds of interesting "curiosities" that show us just how interesting this state is to learn about.In Boston, "The Tortoise and the Hare" sculpture calls Copley Square its home, and Boston's Public Garden is where the famous "Make Way for Ducklings" sculpture resides, a favorite of children and adults alike. The State House is topped by a gilded pine cone, the symbol of Maine, which was part of Massachusetts until 1820 - and a "Sacred Cod" and "Holy Mackerel" reside within. (Who says stuffy politicians don't have a sense of humor?) The Great Brinks Robbery happened in Boston's North End in 1950, and the North End is also the location of the great molasses tidal wave of 1919. My grandmother used to tell me stories about that one, and until I read this book, I always thought it was an exaggerated bunch of hooey (or is that gooey?).But the fun doesn't stop with Boston. We learn about the "bugging" of Natick, the Museum of Burnt Food in Arlington, and the birthplace of Fig Newtons, Necco Wafers and Marshmallow Fluff. (How long has my husband been eating that goop and I didn't even realize it's still being made in Salem?) Easton lays claim to the world's largest (and possibly only) shovel museum, and the Toll House Cookie (of Nestle fame) was invented in Whitman. We learn the history of the "chair wars" that began in Gardner in 1905, and discover that, yes, there actually is a Podunk, USA.I learned so much history about my state. This book holds a lot of sweet memories for me, too, like eating at The Union Oyster House with my Dad, riding the carousel at Paragon Park with my much older neighbor who was, well, five, and taking my parents to a restaurant at Minot Light for their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary (which cost me a king's ransom of $25). Battleship Cove ... Lizzy Borden ... Nantasket Beach .... Is this reading more like a memoir that a review? Sorry ... now where was I? Field trips to Plimoth Plantation ... the Mayflower ... summer vacations on Cape Cod ... eating at the Toll House Inn with my grandparents ....This is much more in depth and meticulously researched than other curiosity books I've read. The authors' love of the state is evident. Let's face it, Massachusetts is cool. I've always known it. Now it's been proven. From the Vested Grasshopper atop Faneuil Hall (his vest is actually a time capsule) to the Toilet Museum in Worcester (pronounced "Wisstah"), if you decide to join the authors for this wacky trip around the Bay State, rest assured you won't be missing a thing.
