This was a lovely commentary on climate change, war, species changes and how easily history can be wrapped to suit the needs of one side. Calypso is a simple 20 yr old waiting to be married off. She's in a community that was formed after war with the Koridon's destroyed most of Earth. She may be simple, but she's curious about sex. This community doesn't value it, not even to make babies. There's multiple horrible events that are the catalyst to her new life.The book is written flawlessly. I found very few editing errors. It's written from Calypso's point of view, and she is fascinated by the plant s, flowers, ground, the Korid on's, everything she's been sheltered from. The prose recognizes her awe and wonder...the words are always dreamy. You are transported to each scene."Lurking beneath the beautiful skin flush against mine, his chest heaving, he emanates raw viciousness. He is devastating dominance compacted into one flawless, towering form.'And this scene, pondering religion and life."Maybe where he’s from, that was their end of days. But from everything I’ve read and feel in my heart, there’s something else in store for us. I don’t know what, but there is more than we can see and what our sciences can explain. Religious works like the Bible and Koran come to mind, their pages written by men long ago who felt God guiding their hand. Books written at different times and in completely different places, yet still seem to have the answer for every question you could ask. There are a lot of brutal stories, too, but it taught the ones left after the annihilation important lessons as they rebuilt. I do feel something special about me. It’s in every breath and every joyful rush. We flesh and bone but also amazing and unique minds, love and invention. A living entity. Essence. A soul." Koridon's want Calypso to help repopulate their species. And Hessian is the lead of their crew. They are afraid of going extinct. What the author does well, is show just how similar the Korodons and the Earth people are. As Calypso falls deeper and deeper in love with Koridon, she discovers deeply hidden secrets that cause her to change how she thinks and what she values. Even when she is captured by a bad man, she asks questions. Calypso is a smart girl, and I love the way she absorbs text from books from "long ago" and ponders it as a true historian would.There is some difficult scenes, definitely non-con, and they are used to highlight Calypso's difficult journey ahead, and perhaps the hypocrisy of her people. They are not wasted scenes designed to titilate. The way Kassien took care of Calypso was gentle and I enjoyed their journey together.
Loved how she brought scifi into alien and human format. Showing how even though we are different that we still attract men of all forms. Truly enjoyed how our womanly scent made the alien men go crazy. Excited to read the next book in this series.
If you are into rape over and over again, this is the book for you, otherwise avoid this book like the plague.
This was an interesting take on a post-apocalyptic/alien invasion scenario and I enjoyed it, very much. The future is one where humans are hiding in small communities, their daily lives highly structured and restricted. Women, especially, are curtailed in their activities for fear of drawing the attention of the aforementioned aliens. Calypso has always keenly felt these restrictions and her differences from the rest of her group. She soon learns the cost of standing out from the crowd.This is the first book in what I hope will be an ongoing series, and it ends on a cliffhanger. The author has created a world ripe for expansion and I look forward to seeing where it goes, next.There are definitely triggers in this book (non-con and dub-con), so be aware.
This is my first book By C.F. Rabbiosi and I have to say that I am impressed. Ms. Rabbiosi managed to create a fresh and original story. The world building is outstanding. I felt like I was truly living in this beautifully crafted world alongside its characters. I love that Calypso is such a strong heroine despite the cards fate keeps dealing her. This story is full of twists that take the reader on quite a ride. There is a certainly a lot of brutality and violent content so this may not be the book for everyone. It might benefit from further editing, however, this did not take away from my enjoyment of the book.
I Loved it it was so different and original and if you like dark Dystopian with some violence and harsh scenes then this is the book for you the writing is great and in great detail of the characters and the world they are now in and had me hooked from page one. I really loved Calypso she was such an interesting character and a very strong willed woman with what she has to endure from these men, all the twists truths and lies along with Kassien and Brekter awwww I love them all I cant pick and Im so looking forward to the next one, I really cant wait.
Holy cow what did I just read! This book is usually not my genre that I usually read, but I am grateful I did.This book is based on a beautiful other world that the author built and made it so believable that I wanted to be there. Her characters were remarkable and sexy as hell. The sexiness and the hotness left me an emotional wreck.Great job! I am so ready for book two.
I absolutely loved this book. I'm starting to love sci-fi books more and more. Calypso is human or so she thought. The Koridon are another creature altogether and from a totally different world. Calypso is disfigured and does not consider herself beautiful, but all the men want her. She is going to marry Finn. Calypso is taken by the Koridon. The leader wants to mate with her to keep their kind alive. Calypso was told she can't bore children til she finds out the truth about herself. Will Calypso help the people of Koridon or will she run back home as fast as she can? This book was really intriguing to me.
